Lauren Bartelt is a mental health counselor in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and has been a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Wisconsin since 2018. Lauren received a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Lewis & Clark College in 2015, and previously lived and worked in Portland, Oregon. Lauren practices therapy through a relational, trauma-informed, and social justice lens, focusing on building strengths and connection to self, others, and the environment. Lauren has had opportunities to work in varied settings providing mental health counseling. While living in Portland, she worked for a non-profit providing individual and family counseling to youth and young adults with co-occurring mental health challenges and developmental disabilities, and then transitioned to working for a nature-based outpatient therapy center. Prior to entering private practice in Wisconsin, Lauren worked for Outagamie County and Winnebago County providing outpatient mental health counseling, primarily providing counseling for adults and groups.
Lauren is excited to see more people prioritizing mental health and personal growth. She truly values the ability to help people access greater insight, healthier coping strategies, improved boundaries, and increased resilience. Lauren has received training and practices mental health counseling using research-based treatments and approaches. She is trained in and uses cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), attachment-based theory, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), written exposure therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and mindfulness and meditation. While it is important for counselors to use interventions that are proven to help a lot of people, research also shows that the quality of the therapeutic relationship is the leading factor in the effectiveness of mental health counseling. As such, Lauren prioritizes talking about the therapeutic alliance and how you find you’re benefitting throughout treatment.
Lauren provides mental health counseling for people 16 years and older. Lauren is LGBTQI+ affirming, body positive, and socially and politically informed. She is down to earth, calm, and accepting, and strives to provide a space that is welcoming and safe for all individuals.
